6 Tactics to Create an Effective SEO Strategy

Search Engine Optimization or SEO has become an important tool for businesses to increase the visibility of their websites and reach potential customers. User experience is at the center of any SEO strategy. This is based on providing relevant information for a user’s search query which can be identified by the search engine. Search engines are getting smarter at understanding a user’s search intent and helping them find the exact answers they are looking for. Hence, to create an effective SEO strategy, you need to focus on user intent.

In HubSpot’s “Not Another State of Marketing Report”, a survey on SEO states that about 64% of marketers are investing their time in SEO. Also, 55% of marketers consider search engine optimization important to their overall marketing efforts. Many businesses are recognizing the importance of SEO and adopting it. As Google’s algorithms are constantly changing, it can be challenging to know which techniques would work. It’s hard to exactly pinpoint what will work for you and what will not. So, whether you are planning to improve your SEO strategy or just get started with it, here are a few tactics that can help you create an effective SEO strategy.

Tactics to Create an Effective SEO Strategy

1. Using Strategic Keywords

Keywords are at the core of any SEO strategy. You need to research keywords that are relevant to your products or services. One way to get started is to keep yourself in the place of your potential customers. Think about what search queries they will use when they are looking for the type of products or services that you are offering. If your audiences are looking for information, then use those search queries for any type of content you create to answer their queries. Various tools like Ahrefs, Keyword Planner, SEMRush, etc. can help you research your keywords. Before choosing your keywords consider factors like search volume and competition.

Search volume: Search volume is how many people are searching for that particular keyword. If many people are looking for a keyword it means you can reach a bigger audience.

Competition: This is the amount of competition for a keyword. Make sure to choose keywords with medium to low competition to rank better.

Competitive keyword tools like SEMRush can help you see which search terms your competitors rank for. You can get more keyword ideas by doing this. Make sure to include long-tail keywords in your keyword list. Long-tail keywords are highly focused search queries to get more qualified leads.

2. Creating Relevant Content

Content marketing is a strategic approach focused on creating and distributing relevant, valuable content. It helps you attract and retain your target audience. Writing weekly blogs is a great way to build content for your website. Your customers are looking for more information on specific topics. It could be some problems they are facing, and they are looking for products or services that can help them. Blogs are a great way for you to answer your customer’s queries. Use your keyword list to cover various topics that your target audience would find useful. You can also use these keywords in the subtopics of your blog content.

When you write blogs, focus on a customer’s intent. Write on topics that your audience would find engaging. The more content you have, the more pages you will add to your website. This way you can cover more keywords in your blog, which gives you more opportunities to rank. Content also creates more opportunities for link-building. Having more links helps you rank better.

3. Content Optimization

Search engines often reward websites that publish fresh, consistent, and quality content across the internet. SEO can help your content be more visible to your target audience. Hence, content optimization is important for your SEO efforts. Ensure that you use relevant keywords in your blogs to help you rank better. Do not overuse the keywords. You should maintain a natural flow of keywords throughout your blog.

Use keywords in your blog title. Also, ensure that your focus keyword is present in the URL and meta description. This can improve your chances of ranking better organically.

4. Voice Search Optimization

With the rising use of voice search assistants like Alexa and Siri, it is vital to incorporate voice search optimization into your SEO efforts.

Voice search uses a combination of natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI) to understand the queries from humans and run them over a search engine.

The difference between text content optimization and voice search optimization is that for the latter the content is more conversational.

Use longtail keywords and phrases that match normal conversation. Incorporate these keywords into the content naturally and address the user intent to rank for voice searches.

5. Link-building

Another way to help your web pages rank better is link-building. Link-building is part of off-page SEO. Off-page SEO focuses on the links directed to your website from elsewhere on the internet. It plays a key role in how search engines rank your web pages. Link-building involves acquiring inbound links or backlinks from another website to your website. The more page authority a website has the more effect it will have on the ranking of the linked web page.

You can get link sources by searching for your top keywords. The top 100 to 150 sites might be worth getting links from. Another way is to find sites that link to your competitor’s website. Moz Link Explorer, Ahrefs Site Explorer, and Serpstat are some good backlink research tools. There are many different ways how you can approach link-building. If you are new to link-building, you can start by writing a blog and sharing it on various social media platforms. Approach other bloggers to write a guest blog for your website.

Link-building can be challenging at times. According to the same HubSpot survey mentioned above, only 1.97% of the companies were using backlinking as part of their SEO strategy. It’s best to start small. When done correctly link-building can improve your ranking and allow you to reach more audience

6. Website Design and User Experience

Technical optimization is important to your SEO efforts. Deliver a great user experience to your website visitors. There are various areas you can improve to create a better experience for your users. One way to ensure that is by focusing on your site speed. Slow site speed can affect the quality of your website and force your users to leave without engaging, therefore, try to adjust video and image file sizes to ensure fast loading time. The same survey reported that the highest percentage of companies (24.31%) focused on optimizing load speed as part of their SEO tactics. Many businesses are aware that a slow website can cost them their potential customers.

Focus on the overall presentation of your web pages. Ensure that you have a clean layout and structured content that will make your website appealing to your audience. Add an appropriate number of CTAs. Too many CTAs can confuse the visitors and they will end up exiting the page. Another important tactic is mobile optimization. According to the survey, the second-highest percentage of companies (28.83%) used mobile optimization as part of their SEO efforts. Create a good user experience for visitors accessing your website through their mobile devices. Optimize your website to be mobile-friendly.

Many marketers focus on search algorithms while forming their SEO strategy. But search algorithms keep changing. It is always better to focus your SEO strategy on user intent. Get into the minds of your potential customers. Understand their interests and problems, and what they are searching for on the internet. This approach will help you create a successful and effective SEO strategy.
